I was about to blog about something light-hearted and fun till I received a phonecall..
Basically, the phonecall is about whether I am willing to take someone else's demerit points..
Taken from here,
*******************************************
12 Demerit Points These offenders will be prosecuted in court. - Failing to conform to traffic red light signals.
In addition, a composition amount is imposed as follows: Light Vehicle (unladen weight of 2500 kg and below) : S$200.00 Heavy Vehicle (unladen weight exceeds 2500 kg) : S$230.00 - Use of mobile telephone whilst driving.
The offenders may be prosecuted in court and disqualified from driving. The offender's handphone and SIM card may also be seized to facilitate investigation. These may be forfeited by the court upon conviction. Court Penalties: 1st time offender- Fine not exceeding $1000.00 or jail sentence of up to 6 months or both. 2nd or subsequent conviction- Fine not exceeding $2000.00 or jail sentence of up to 12 months or both. *******************************************
As you can see the highlight, this person apparently drove past a red light signal..
Now, my good friend was asking if I am willing to absorb her friend's 12 demerit points..
12!!!
*phew*
1st: I do not even know this fella..
2nd: He should have been more careful..
3rd: He has already 12 demerit points so another 12 points would mean that he will be suspended from driving..
Taking someone else's demerit points is a matter not to be taken lightly..
I find it unfair for people with a clean record to have to succumb to another's mistakes..
Firstly, maintaining a clean driving record ain't easy..Secondly, there is a certain amount of pride in keeping your record clean..So when people ask whether you have any demerit points, you can proudly say you have a clean record..
After listening that this fella has already accumulated 12 points, I was wondering..Hasn't he learn his lesson? Shouldn't he be more careful? What will happen if I do take his demerit points and then he commit another offense? He doesn't seem very trustworthy with his current record..
Then, my friend asked if I am a frequent driver..Apparently, it wouldn't be a big deal if I have a license but I do not drive so my record would mean nothing to me..But that's not the case..
I am a frequent driver..I try to drive as much as I can, whenever I can so as I will not lose my driving skills..
So considering that I don't even know this fella, his current record says a lot of his driving skills and my pride to keep my record clean, I decided not to take his demerit points..
Its hard to deny a friend..She is a good friend, trying to help her friend(I really hope he appreciates it and truly learn his lesson)..But I cannot condone such act..
You make your own mistake, you suffer your own consequences..
That is what my daddy taught me..
I do have a similar case which happened among my relatives..
My Uncle A committed an offense and would be suspended if noone is willing to take his demerit points as he already had a record..
He approached another uncle of mine, Uncle B, who took his driving license more than 7 times..Poor Uncle B, he really tried his best but he kept failing his driving test and only managed to pass after so many tries..
Now, Uncle A was in a dilemma as he knew he would be suspended..He knew that he couldn't drive to work, etc etc if he is suspended..
The manner where Uncle B was approached truly disgusts me..
Uncle B was approached cos he do not have a car and thus, since he do not drive, his record doesn't matter..
I was furious when I heard about this..
So WHAT if he doesn't have a car? Who ARE you to think his record didn't matter?
You committed that blardy offense, then be brave enough to face the consequences!!
If you think I am over-reacting, I tell you that I am not cos I very well know that this Uncle A of mine is a reckless driver!! Everyone in my family fears to ride in his car!! My mummy has even developed a phobia to ride on his car that when the opportunity arises to ride on his car, she will immediately refuse and would rather take public transport or a cab..
So the drama went on with Uncle B refusing to take Uncle A's points despite of Uncle A's pleas..Uncle A pleaded with Uncle B's wife to persuade Uncle B..In the end, Uncle B gave in to his wife..
*sigh*
Poor Uncle B..
Back to me, I really pity my friend who has to go around, seeking people with licenses to help her friend..I hope he is worth it..
Hmmmmm..
If I am to receive another such phonecall, will I or wouldn't I?
Most probably, I would refuse..But..If that someone happens to be my family member..
I doubt my daddy will be that person as he is the safest driver I've ever known, same goes for my father-in-law..My DH is quite safe too as long there's someone to watch the road with him when he drives..Hehehe!!
I doubt its my mummy cos as reckless, as she is..I know once her record is tainted, she will definitely learn her lesson..
My sister?..
Hmmm..
She did backed up onto a stationary motorbike once and I tell you, she was so traumatized that till this day, she adamantly refuse to touch the wheel unless its absolutely necessary..Hehehe!!
But you never know! She has my mummy's genes and is equally reckless..Hahaha!!
But I definitely know she will face the consequences herself..
Cos like I've mentioned..
My daddy has taught us..And taught us well..
:)
